7 red lipsticks I love

best-red-lipsticks

After over one year of never not having red nail polish, I’m giving my nails a break and a chance to recover from at least 24 gel manicures (more on that in another post). I’m so used to that pop of red that I’ve found myself reaching instead for red lipstick most days. These are my favorites from a very extensive collection. Tony from Tom Ford’s Lips & Boys collection is the darkest of the bunch but still a very true, cool-toned red. Wander Beauty’s Parisian Red is the easiest way to wear a red lip — it’s a more sheer, buildable color and the most comfortable formula. The YSL 1 Le Rouge is a classic red with a satin finish, my preference. The mini Marc Jacobs was a Sephora VIB exclusive at one point but the formula is the same as this one. My drugstore pick is L’Oreal’s Blake’s Red, another classic shade. The only liquid lipstick I’ve tried and loved is this Stila Stay All Day! The mini above in shade Beso is available as a 100 point reward at Sephora right now. And lastly, a beautiful orangey red is Charlotte Tilbury’s Tell Laura from the Hot Lips collection. Clearly I can’t have enough red lipsticks so if I’m missing your favorite, let me know below!

the makeup sponge that replaced my beautyblender

The first time I used a beautyblender, I hadn’t done my research. I used it dry to sort of smear around my foundation and couldn’t fathom why these expensive little sponges were such a cult favorite. A few months (and many YouTube videos) later, I dug it out, wet the sponge and haven’t looked back since. I’ve tried a few beautyblender dupes here and there but nothing ever came close until I tried Wander Beauty’s wander cushion. It’s more dense that other sponges so it won’t soak up any product, extremely soft and has a flat side meant for your face or body and a pointed side for concealer around the eyes and nose. Bonus — it doesn’t need to be replaced every few months and it’s so easy to clean. I use the baby shampoo that I use to clean my makeup brushes and it rinses so clean that it looks new again. Whether you’re a beautyblender addict or makeup sponge novice, I highly recommend giving this one a try!

I’ve never been more excited to tuck away my winter coat for the season and switch to more transitional outerwear. I just know this draped vest is going to be in heavy rotation the next couple of months. It’s already proven to be the perfect layer for my chilly office, usually tossed over an all-black outfit.
