7 red lipsticks I love

best-red-lipsticks

After over one year of never not having red nail polish, I’m giving my nails a break and a chance to recover from at least 24 gel manicures (more on that in another post). I’m so used to that pop of red that I’ve found myself reaching instead for red lipstick most days. These are my favorites from a very extensive collection. Tony from Tom Ford’s Lips & Boys collection is the darkest of the bunch but still a very true, cool-toned red. Wander Beauty’s Parisian Red is the easiest way to wear a red lip — it’s a more sheer, buildable color and the most comfortable formula. The YSL 1 Le Rouge is a classic red with a satin finish, my preference. The mini Marc Jacobs was a Sephora VIB exclusive at one point but the formula is the same as this one. My drugstore pick is L’Oreal’s Blake’s Red, another classic shade. The only liquid lipstick I’ve tried and loved is this Stila Stay All Day! The mini above in shade Beso is available as a 100 point reward at Sephora right now. And lastly, a beautiful orangey red is Charlotte Tilbury’s Tell Laura from the Hot Lips collection. Clearly I can’t have enough red lipsticks so if I’m missing your favorite, let me know below!

my favorite mascaras

Maybelline mascaras are my go-to at the drugstore. With its super curved brush, Lash Sensational is a dupe for another one of my favorites, Roller Lash. It separates lashes to create a ton of volume and I like that there’s a non-waterproof version — so much easier to remove! Charlotte Tilbury’s Legendary Lashes is the most dramatic of the lot. You get it all with this one — volume, length and super dark pigment. I found it transferred a bit the first time I wore it but a good way to stop mascara from transferring onto your eyelids is to use a primer and long-wearing eyeshadow to prevent oily lids. I thought mascara primers were a big hoax until I tried the Urban Decay Subversion Lash Primer — it’s incredible! A couple coats under any mascara you own will make will make lashes look noticeably more long and voluminous (and that’s why it was one of my date night makeup picks). Benefit Roller Lash gives just enough length, separation and curl to make it perfect for everyday. The wand is a little slimmer than the Lash Sensational which makes it easier to apply without smudging — especially on the lower lashes. LORAC Pro Plus Fiber is made with nylon fibers to give the length and volume of faux lashes. I’ll throw this one in my bag if I have plans after work because it’s really buildable on top of any other mascara.

date night makeup

I like to take a little extra time, add a little extra shimmer to my makeup before a date. Truth be told, sometimes the getting ready portion ends up being the best part of the night and if that’s going to be the case, I may as well enjoy it. I’m not talking about anything crazy, just five little extra products to add to my typical makeup routine. I’ll start with Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream for hydration and seriously glowy skin. LORAC’s Unzipped Gold palette has all the perfect, illuminating shades for a subtle-yet-romantic eye or something a little smokier and sultrier, plus the shadows are butter-soft and gorgeous. I like to smudge a mix of the shades Unpredictable, a shimmery rose, and Unleashed, a bright copper, with a pencil brush along my lower lash line. One swipe of Urban Decay’s Subversion Lash Primer under mascara makes my lashes more voluminous and fluttery — almost as if I was wearing falsies. Using this fan brush, I dust Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop on the top of cheekbones, very lightly down the bridge of the nose and on the cupid’s bow. Tinted balms like the Fresh Sugar ones are always my lip color of choice because they look natural and I can reapply without a mirror. Shop all of these products below!
