My skin errs on the side of dry and sensitive, a tendency that weeks of bitter cold does no favors. Over the years I’ve fine-tuned a winter skincare routine that soothes even a painfully dry complexion.
Step one is to slough away flaky dead skin with an at-home facial peel. I’ve raved about the BEAUTYPIE Five Minute Facial before (read here) and also adore the Drunk Elephant TLC Sukari Babyfacial. This resurfacing step will also help the products that follow sink in better and be more effective.
Next for me is always a pump of the Clarins Hydra-Essentiel serum. Ever since I tried this, it has been a staple in my winter skincare routine. I seal it in and add more hydration with a heavy moisturizer – a generous layer (a theme from here on out) of Kiehl’s replenishing Ultra Facial Cream or the Origins Drink Up overnight mask will do the trick.
Now is the time for a little extra love in your body care routine as well. A rich body butter is best applied straight out of the shower so skin can drink it right up or just before bed so it has time to nourish and restore overnight. I love The Body Shop’s range, especially the Vitamin E one, or Kiehl’s delectable Creme de Corps.
The next two products are so heavy (but so effective) that I exclusively use them before bed. First is a thick layer of the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm, then a generous dollop of Weleda’s Skin Food. Both are incredibly softening – apply a thick layer to chapped lips and hands respectively to fix the problem overnight.
